Meet the founder

Hi, I'm Lawrence Au, founder of The LaunchPad.Biz and a recognised pioneer and thought leader in Asia's securities services industry, with a distinguished career driving growth and innovation across Asia’s financial sector since the 1980’s.

I served as Asia Pacific CEO at BNP Paribas Securities Services and Northern Trust for a combined 16 years during their formative years in the region, building their businesses from the ground up to become market leaders. I led over 2,000 staff across eight countries and 10 offices, serving as licensed responsible officer for financial operations in Hong Kong, Singapore, India, and Australia.

During my early career, I held senior roles at leading global financial institutions such as The Bank of New York, JP Morgan, Chase Manhattan Bank, Security Pacific National Bank, and First National Chicago Bank.

In recognition of my contributions, I received multiple prestigious industry awards including Global Custodian’s “Industry Legend Award” (2023) and Asia Asset Management’s “Lifetime Achievement Award” (2016). I also received the “Vice Chancellor Alumni Excellence Award” (2020) from The University of Queensland, my alma mater in Australia.

I have authored two notable books on Asia’s financial industry developments:

• “Asia’s Financial Industry 1986-2016” (English and Chinese), ranked #18 in Amazon Kindle’s banking category;

• “From Physical to Digital: Asia’s Securities Services Developments 1995-2021” (English).

Both are featured in prestigious university and public library collections worldwide.

Since retiring from corporate life, I founded The LaunchPad.Biz and remain active in consulting, writing for financial journals, guest lecturing, mentoring, and supporting philanthropic initiatives.

I currently serve on the Hong Kong Monetary Authority CMU OmniClear’s Market Advisory Group, chair the Assets Servicing Committee of the Financial Executive Club, while being a member of The Securities Services Advisory Group and Singapore Funds Director Association.
